People who have come to Horn Creek speak of the “Horn Creek experience”. Put simply, it changes people for the better. And the more often people visit Horn Creek, the deeper the change. Here’s why that’s important:
- It opens people to change. Outside of their normal comfort zone, Horn Creek campers are forced to rely on others, to try new things. Becoming comfortable with change emboldens campers to make a difference outside of camp.
- It strengthens the entire person. Horn Creek’s unusual environment stimulates campers mentally. Recreating with strangers builds social skills. Traversing the rugged outdoors challenges campers physically.
- It reinforces bonds. Youth campers come home lauding their counselors. Family campers get closer, from children to grandparents. Horn Creek campers learn from each other.
- It creates lasting memories. Again, being out of their normal surroundings, campers’ senses and awareness are heightened. And the things they learn and experience through a meaningful Horn Creek camp experience stay with them forever.
- It creates leaders. Camp leaders and counselors – quite often young people – are given the rare opportunity to be responsible for others at Horn Creek. There is, perhaps, no better tool for developing strong leaders for our world.
You can give to Horn Creek in several ways: you can benefit others through giving to our scholarship programs, ensure Horn Creek will continue for generations to come by giving to our capital campaign or help us to lower our costs by adopting projects. For details on any and all ways to give to Horn Creek, please contact Larry Miller, Director of Development at horncreek@aol.com. Click to view the Upon This Rock Campaign video.
