Find Us Stuff

A great way to support the ministry of Horn Creek is to donate items of need. Construction materials, paint, vehicles and many other items help our camp go! Donating or helping us locate specific items of need at significant discounts are a great way to partner with our ministry and help us be good stewards of our resources.

If you have access to equipment, materials, or anything else you think we might be able to use, or would like to find out about specific current needs see the list below, or please email Jim Hess at jimhess@horncreek.org or call him at (719) 783-2205.

  • Additional donations needed this spring for projects to prepare for summer:

$10000 for 4 new commercial washers (2 each at Lodge and Meadows).  Horn Creek needs truly commercial machines, as our residential top loading units break down frequently and are no good after only 3 years.  Commercial machines will reduce our water consumption to about 1/3, save us $2000 in propane each year, and reduce our time required to do laundry by 1/3.  Ultimately they will pay for themselves in two to three years.  Ideally, we’d love to get 2 for the Ranch facility as well (another $5000).

Repair a kitchen floor and redo a bathroom in a staff house $2800.

Drill a new well to replace the one at the REC Center whose capacity has dropped below a usable level.  Build a new pump house for it, run water lines, etc. $10,000.

Re-landscape at Meadows and Lower Ranch after digging up a lot of the ground to create proper water shut-off for the winter $4000.

Purchase carpet & padding for volunteers to install in some areas during May $3000.

Purchase paint and supplies for volunteers to paint interiors and exteriors of numerous buildings in May $1000.

Arena upgrades before summer $13000 – we have $15000 in donations to improve the interior of the building; we need this additional money to improve the grading so it doesn’t take-in water after snow melt or rain storms; as well as insulating the roof so we can use the facility all year (we have a men’s group of 300+ slated to use it this November).

Finish the RV Site to enable us to recruit groups of skilled volunteers who travel in RV’s $30000.  In August of 2007, a group of retired folks stayed in Westcliffe at an RV site and did skilled projects for Horn Creek for 2 weeks.  They performed over 900 hours of service.  They also paid for virtually all of the supplies they used.  We can easily double or triple that amount each year.  If we paid such folks $15 per hour, the site will essentially pay for itself in one year.

$3000 to finish repairing our old snow cat for grooming the tube hill.

$5000 to redo the roofs on 2 staff houses.

$1500 to replace numerous broken window panes around camp.

$1000 for road base for sides of barn to minimize mud and even the grade so cleaning is easier.  We pick up the loads with our truck to minimize the cost.

$800 to replace broken windshields on several vehicles.

$600 for newer exterior doors for several buildings (we will buy these used to save money).
